Program: Love Your Neighbor
“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
— Franklin D. Roosevelt
Love Your Neighbor
Bangladesh is a country that is affected by natural disasters, overpopulation and poverty. There are millions of orphans in Bangladesh who have lost one or both parents, making the child especially vulnerable. Love Your Neighbor is an organization whose mission is to rescue the most destitute children bringing them into a loving home where they have both physical nourishment, social and emotional healing along with proper education. This level of care is vital to a child whose family is unable to care for them– instead of living on the streets, being forced into early marriage or worse, these children have a bright future.
Love Your Neighbor was established in 2005 with a home for boys then in 2016 a home for girls was added. Today there are 40 girls and 35 boys being cared for at Home of Love. Home of Love is a safe and nurturing environment where the children receive excellent care.
Brenda Davisson, a board member of Servants International has been a stakeholder and ambassador/partner with the organization since 2014. Brenda has traveled to Bangladesh several times and seen firsthand how the organization operates and is helping them to become self-sustaining with projects such as: cattle and goat farming, raising chickens and ducks, installing a state-of-the-art water treatment facility, installing Wi-Fi and computer equipment, as well as develop educational enrichment programs such as art and music.
Many of the children who grow up at Love Your Neighbor, are earning their high school degrees and what is equivalent to an associate’s degree. They are able to thrive in the local community. Some graduates return to Love Your Neighbor to work in a serving role.
Over the next few years Love Your Neighbor would like to build and deploy a medical clinic. This clinic would serve not only the orphans but the local community providing basic medical care.
Your contribution to Love Your Neighbor will give hope and help transform lives of these precious children.
May 26, 2024 - Cyclone Remal Has Affected Many Families in Southern Bangladesh
Cyclone Remal ended, but it left a trail of destruction in the coastal area of Bangladesh. Tidal surges flooded the communities, and damaged infrastructure, shelters, trees, crops, and fish farms. It also damaged the power and communication lines due to broken branches and uprooted trees. Due to the strong tidal pressure, the dam broke, and the water entered and damaged the crops. Power outages were widespread, and mobile and internet connectivity were minimal to communicate in those areas.
After the disaster, the WCB workers visited the areas, and homes of survivors to collected information about how much damage they faced and planned for the next steps to combat the post-cyclone effect.
There are 4 buildings that are storm shelters operated by the mission in Bangladesh. At this time, the mission workers are helping people who have lost their homes by providing food and temporary shelter.
